    Through the Walls

Through The Walls: A Prison Film CHANGE - FROM THE INSIDE OUT This personal documentary and the team behind it aim to stop the cycle of violence. It's a film about music redeeming the human spirit. Spurred by the grief over her father’s death, depression, and a #MeToo moment, director Jennie-Sue Nuccio goes inside the walls of San Quentin State Prison looking for hope in an unlikely place. In 2008, a historic concert took place inside San Quentin. Anti-violence youth activists and musicians from the outside were brought inside to perform side-by-side with inmates, all in an effort to spread a message of peace. Families of murder victims have been participating in No More Tears Healing Circles for years now, in a social justice program founded by inmates. One of the outsiders who came in was a young man from Oakland by the name of Bobby Hall II. When Bobby was 9 his older brother Jesse was shot and killed while sitting in a car in front of their home -- for no apparent reason. Ever since then, Bobby was inspired to fight violence through his music and activism. Three months to the day following the concert, Bobby himself was shot and killed in a case of mistaken identity. The inmates, profoundly impacted by Bobby's death, wrote him a tribute song and managed to get it out to his family. This transformative film follows the story of Jennie-Sue and how she becomes involved with Bobby’s family. Former lifer, musician Henry “MC” Montgomery gets out and becomes a part of the family as well. Now known as “Poise” he performs throughout the Bay Area and continues his activism on the outside. Anyone can make a difference. What do you do to reach beyond your walls?
